Société VIA was founded on May 10, 1977 by members of the Levis business community who wanted to enable people with disabilities to enter the job market. When it was founded, the company was active in the food sector, producing sugar pies. After experimenting with a number of activities, Société VIA began shredding and recycling confidential paper.
In 1983, André Poitras joined Société VIA as General Manager. Thanks to its innovative spirit and leadership, the recycling business has continued to grow.
When recycling was introduced in Quebec at the turn of the 90s, the expertise developed enabled Société VIA to specialize in recycling management in Lévis, when it had just moved into its current head office premises.
Société VIA was approached in 1999 by the City of Rivière-du-Loup to take over recycling activities in the region. The company running the sorting center at the time found itself in financial difficulties and had to cease operations. With Société VIA now operating this new facility, several jobs have been maintained.
In 2009, Société VIA was awarded a contract by mutual agreement with the City of Quebec, and is now entrusted with the management of the Quebec City sorting center.
Société VIA welcomes the Saguenay sorting center into its fold. The company will begin its mandate in the current infrastructure before eventually moving its operations to the new building.
A transition of operations to Société VIA begins for the management of sorting operations in Lachine. The Lachine sorting center becomes the 5th to join Société VIA.
